You will see many coffee recipes on the internet requiring espresso. While espresso is very versatile and used in lots of coffee recipes, it is also a significant barrier to entry for home brewers. In comes the Aeropress, for a relatively low price the Aeropress allows you to brew a concentrated brew that mimics espresso and can replace it for a tasty beverage! This guide will show you how to make ”espresso” with the Aeropress.
Necessary Equipement
- Aeropress or Aeropress Go
- *optional* Aeropress flow control cap or Fellow Prismo attachment
- Kettle
- Spoon or Aeropress stirrer
Parameters
- 20g coffee ground for espresso – I tend to prefer medium to medium-dark coffee for this type of recipe but I encourage you to experiment!
- 80g water at 100ºC (212ºF)
Preparation
- Cap your Aeropress with the flow control filter cap or set up your Aeropress in the inverted position
- Add 20g of fine ground coffee to the Aeropress
- Start a timer and add 80g water to Aeropress
- Stir 10 times back and forth
- At 1:00 start pressing into your vessel. The fine ground coffee will increase the pressure required to press. Use a sturdy vessel. A good option is a metal milk steaming pitcher!
- Enjoy your Aeropress ”Espresso”. Drink straight up or use in your favourite espresso beverage such as this pistachio shaken espresso!
Notes: This recipe is a starting point for you to make an espresso replacement with the Aeropress. Feel free to experiment with different coffee, water temperature and specific brew ratios to adjust the recipe to your liking!
